Mya Murphy, a Strugis West graduate, learns valuable life lessons through golf

Mya Murphy, a recent graduate of Sturgis West, has found her passion in both golfing and caddying. Introduced to the sport by her father at a young age, Murphy quickly fell in love with the game. She began playing competitively at the age of 13 and has since excelled in various Massachusetts state golf events. Her senior year at Sturgis culminated in her earning medalist honors at the South Sectionals, showcasing her talent and dedication to the sport.

Despite being one of the few girls in the caddie yard at Sacconnesset Golf Club in Falmouth, Murphy has embraced the challenge and thrived in this role. She believes that caddying has taught her valuable lessons in respect and being a good person to others. Additionally, Sacconnesset Golf Club participates in the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, which Murphy hopes to take advantage of to further her education.

Murphy’s hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as she has earned a scholarship to play golf at Merrimack College in the fall. She views this opportunity not only as a way to continue her athletic career but also as a means to meet new people and expand her network. Despite not being a member at any golf club, Murphy has worked tirelessly to stand out and make a name for herself in the golfing community.

Reflecting on her journey in golf, Murphy credits her grandfather for instilling in her a love for the game. She sees playing golf as a way to honor his memory and continue his legacy. This deep connection to the sport has driven Murphy to excel and push herself to new heights in her golfing career.

Recently, Murphy, along with fellow Cape natives Emma Abramson and Riley Eames, advanced to match play at the Massachusetts Girls‘ Junior Amateur championship. Their impressive performances in stroke play earned them a spot in the next round of competition. Despite facing tough competition, these young golfers are determined to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.

As they navigate the challenges of competitive golf, these talented athletes from Cape Cod are setting their sights on success and growth in the sport. With their dedication, passion, and drive to improve, Murphy, Abramson, and Eames are poised to make a mark in the world of golf and continue to inspire others with their talent and determination.
