Havre Golf Team Unites During Weekend Tournament – Hi-Line Today

The Havre High golf team is gearing up for the 2024 season, with a unique schedule that sees them go from the first day of practice to roster cuts to playing in an official tournament all within the span of five days. Head coach Dennis Murphy shared some insights into the team’s preparation and expectations for the upcoming season.

The team kicked off their season on Thursday, August 15th, with two days of qualifying rounds. During these rounds, all interested athletes played an 18-hole qualifier, with the top performers earning a spot on the varsity team for both the boys‘ and girls‘ squads. This quick turnaround from practice to roster selection sets the tone for a fast-paced start to the season.

Coach Murphy highlighted the experience of the returning players on the boys‘ team, with three golfers who were part of the divisional team last year. Additionally, a fourth player who saw significant varsity action last season adds depth to the team. The competition for the fifth spot on the varsity team is open to all players, ensuring that the best performer earns their place on the roster.

On the girls‘ side, Coach Murphy noted that there are two returning players with varsity experience from last year’s divisional team. The rest of the squad is made up of young talent, presenting a learning curve for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season. Despite the short timeframe, the team is focused on getting ready for postseason play.

The Havre High varsity golf team will have a quick turnaround as they head to their first meet in Great Falls at the Meadlow Lark Country Club on Monday. This tournament will be unique as it starts in the afternoon, with tee times beginning at 1pm. The team will then shift gears to play at Eagle Falls on Tuesday morning, starting at 9am.

With a mix of experienced players and up-and-coming talent, the Havre High golf team is poised for an exciting season ahead. The quick transition from practice to competition will test the team’s readiness and resilience, but Coach Murphy is confident in the abilities of his players. As they hit the course for their first tournament, all eyes will be on the Blue Ponies as they strive for success in the 2024 season.
