Patchin is back as the Vandals‘ voice

Dennis Patchin Returns to Idaho Vandal Sports Properties

Idaho Vandal Sports Properties and Idaho Athletics have announced the return of Dennis Patchin to the radio microphone for Idaho Football and Men’s Basketball. Patchin, a member of the Inland Northwest Sports Hall of Fame, previously served as the Voice of Vandal football from 2015-2019. His return comes as a replacement for Chris King, who will be taking over as the new play-by-play broadcaster for Washington State University, his alma mater.

„I’m excited to be returning to broadcast the Idaho football games and looking forward to calling Basketball, too,“ Patchin said. „I think Jason Eck and Alex Pribble are tremendous coaches who have positive momentum in their programs, and I can’t wait to share the game stories with Vandals Fans.“

Patchin brings over four decades of experience in Spokane working in TV and radio. He hosted the radio show „Patchin and Lukens“ for more than two decades and worked at KXLY before becoming the Sports Director at SWX/KHQ in 2020. During his time at SWX, he called several Vandal football and basketball games for linear broadcasts and built strong relationships with Idaho coaches, players, and staff members.

Throughout his career, Patchin has called countless games from high school to professional sports and every university in the Inland Northwest. His wealth of experience and familiarity with the local sports scene make him a valuable addition to the Idaho Vandal Sports Properties team.

„We are extremely fortunate to have such a smooth transition from Chris King to Dennis Patchin’s return as ‚Voice of the Vandals,'“ Vandal Sports Properties General Manager Tom Morris said. „Dennis has great relationships with our coaches, administration, and will again bring his many years of broadcasting experience to the radio booth for our fans to enjoy.“

In addition to his game-calling duties, Patchin will also host the weekly coaches shows and take over as the host of the Vandal Insider Podcast. Former Vandal tight end Trent Cowan will join Patchin in the booth as an analyst for Idaho football games.

Patchin announced his retirement from SWX earlier this summer, with his final broadcast scheduled for August 29. Just two days later, he will be in the booth calling Idaho’s season opener at Oregon. Vandals fans can look forward to hearing Patchin’s familiar voice once again as he brings his passion for sports and wealth of experience to the broadcast booth.
