Alexis Bordas, Wheeling Park Basketball Standout, Commits to Duquesne University | Latest Updates on News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

Alexis Bordas, a standout girls‘ basketball player at Wheeling Park High School, has recently announced her commitment to play basketball at NCAA Division I Duquesne University. The talented senior-to-be made her decision official on social media, expressing her excitement for the opportunity to continue her academic and athletic careers at the prestigious university.

Standing at 5-8, Bordas is one of the most decorated players in Wheeling Park High School history. She has been recognized with numerous accolades, including being named the West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year twice, winning the Mary Ostrowski Award twice, and earning two West Virginia Class 4A first team all-state honors. Her impressive performance on the court has garnered attention from several Division I programs, but ultimately, Duquesne stood out as the perfect fit for Bordas.

In her decision-making process, Bordas highlighted the factors that influenced her choice. She emphasized Duquesne’s strong basketball program, its proximity to home, the school’s Catholic affiliation (which aligns with her own beliefs), and the opportunity to play for head coach Dan Burt, the winningest coach in Duquesne history. Additionally, the support of her family and the chance to have them watch her play were important considerations for Bordas.

Bordas’s journey to playing Division I basketball has been a long-standing goal for her, dating back to her middle school years. She credits her experience playing high-level basketball with the West Virginia Thunder 17U team for helping her gain exposure to college coaches and ultimately securing offers from various schools. Bordas’s dedication to the sport and her relentless work ethic have been instrumental in achieving her dream of playing at the highest level of collegiate basketball.

As she prepares for her senior season at Wheeling Park High School, Bordas is focused on leading her team to success. Despite facing changes in the roster due to graduations and injuries, Bordas remains determined to help her team make another run at a state championship. With her impressive career statistics, including 1,815 career points, 440 rebounds, and 266 three-point shots, Bordas is poised to leave a lasting legacy at Wheeling Park.

Throughout her basketball journey, Bordas has been supported by her family, coaches, teammates, and the community. She acknowledges the sacrifices her parents have made to support her passion for basketball and expresses gratitude to everyone who has played a role in her development as a player. Wheeling Park head coach Ryan Young commends Bordas for her dedication and talent, describing her as a model player who has elevated the team’s performance.

Looking ahead to her college experience, Bordas is still undecided on her major but has aspirations of becoming a surgeon. She will follow in the footsteps of fellow Ohio Valley basketball player Angela Staffileno, who previously played for Duquesne. With her commitment to excellence on and off the court, Bordas is poised to make a significant impact at Duquesne University and continue her impressive basketball career.
