Aurora Field Hockey: A Quick Look at the 2024 Season

The 2024 field hockey season for Aurora teams is shaping up to be an exciting one, with three programs from the area set to compete against some of the best teams in the state. Grandview, Regis Jesuit, and Smoky Hill (a co-op team with players from other area schools) are gearing up for what promises to be a competitive season.

Each team is led by a dedicated coach who is committed to helping their players reach their full potential. Grandview is coached by Alex Smith, Regis Jesuit by Spencer Wagner, and Smoky Hill by Lisa Griffiths. These coaches bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to their respective teams, and they are sure to have their players well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

In the 2023 season, Regis Jesuit and Smoky Hill both made it to the playoffs, with Regis Jesuit earning an automatic berth as the No. 3 seed and Smoky Hill securing a spot in a play-in game. While Regis Jesuit fell in the quarterfinals and Smoky Hill lost in a play-in game, both teams showed resilience and determination throughout the season. Grandview, on the other hand, faced a tough season with a record of 0-14-1, but they are looking to turn things around in the upcoming season.

The regular season for field hockey in Colorado runs from August 22 to October 24, with the postseason beginning shortly after. All 16 teams will be seeded based on the Colorado High School Activities Association Seeding Index, with first-round games taking place on October 28-29. The championship games will be held at All-City Stadium in Denver on November 6, with the consolation game preceding the championship match.

Regis Jesuit will be looking to bounce back from their quarterfinal loss last season, which ended a streak of five consecutive appearances in the state championship game. With a strong team and a wealth of talent, they are poised to make a deep run in the playoffs. Smoky Hill, ranked No. 10 in the preseason coaches poll, will be looking to build on their past successes and make a statement in the postseason.

As the 2024 field hockey season approaches, fans can expect to see some thrilling matchups and fierce competition on the field. With talented players, dedicated coaches, and a strong sense of determination, the Aurora teams are ready to showcase their skills and make their mark on the state’s field hockey scene. Stay tuned for what promises to be an unforgettable season of field hockey in Aurora.
