CUI Men’s Soccer Team Prepared to Showcase Their Strength

The Concordia University Irvine men’s soccer team is gearing up for a new season filled with excitement and anticipation. The team has been ranked seventh out of 14 teams in the PacWest Conference’s annual preseason poll, but the players and coaches are focused on proving themselves on the field rather than relying solely on rankings.

This season brings some extra intrigue as the PacWest Conference has expanded with the addition of Vanguard, Menlo College, and Jessup University. Last year, Westmont made the leap from NAIA to NCAA DII and is now eligible for postseason play at this level. With these new teams in the mix, there is a sense of unpredictability and excitement surrounding the upcoming season.

The CUI men’s program is buzzing with enthusiasm as they prepare for their home opener. Long-time assistant coach Erik Kirsch has been promoted to interim head coach and has assembled a talented roster of local players and returning veterans. Players like Kevin Sanchez, Wyatt Burris, and Andre Flores are expected to lead the team both on and off the field.

Kevin Sanchez, who scored seven goals last season and made Second Team All-PacWest, will be a key player to watch this season. Wyatt Burris, the team captain and Third Team All-PacWest selection, will anchor the defense alongside goalkeeper Andre Flores. Ryan Smith and Leo Sanchez are also returning players who will contribute to the team’s success.

Former starters Tyler Oakson and Sergio Gutierrez have transitioned into graduate assistant coaching roles, bringing their experience and knowledge to the sidelines. The team has already had a couple of scrimmages in late August to prepare for the season, with their home opener scheduled for Saturday, September 7 against The Master’s.

As the season unfolds, fans can follow the team’s progress by checking out the full CUI men’s soccer schedule.
