The Concordia University Irvine men’s soccer team is gearing up for a new season filled with excitement and anticipation. The team has been ranked seventh out of 14 teams in the PacWest Conference’s annual preseason poll, but the players and coaches are focused on proving themselves on the field rather than relying solely on rankings.
This season brings some extra intrigue as the PacWest Conference has expanded with the addition of Vanguard, Menlo College, and Jessup University. Last year, Westmont made the leap from NAIA to NCAA DII and is now eligible for postseason play at this level. The CUI men’s program is buzzing with enthusiasm as they prepare for their home opener. Long-time assistant coach Erik Kirsch has been promoted to interim head coach and has assembled a talented roster of local players and returning veterans. The team has already had a couple of scrimmages in late August to prepare for the season, with their home opener scheduled for Saturday, September 7 against The Master’s.
