Five Bobcats recognized for their achievements on Alliance girls tennis team | Local News, Sports, Employment

The Marshalltown girls’ tennis team had an outstanding season this spring, going undefeated in Iowa Alliance Conference play. This impressive performance was reflected in the all-conference teams, with several Bobcat players earning recognition for their skill and dedication on the court.

Leading the way for Marshalltown were seniors Rebekah Downs and Ava Lucas, along with junior Kennedy Feldman, who all received first-team honors in the all-Iowa Alliance Conference’s North Division. Downs, who played at the No. 1 singles position, finished with an 8-6 record, while Feldman excelled at No. 2 with a 12-2 record. Lucas also had a strong season at No. 3, posting a 12-2 mark.

One of the highlights of the season was Downs and Feldman’s success as a doubles team. They became the first Bobcat duo to advance to the state tournament since 1985 and ended the spring with an impressive 14-5 record together. This achievement showcased their chemistry and teamwork on the court.

Senior Claire Bohan and junior Lily Zahnd also received recognition for their contributions to the team, earning second-team honors. Bohan had a solid singles record at No. 4, finishing with an 11-3 record, while Zahnd, a West Marshall prep, excelled at No. 5 with a 10-3 record. Their consistent play and determination were key factors in Marshalltown’s success this season.

In total, Marshalltown had five players named to the all-conference teams, showcasing the depth and talent of the team. This strong representation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff throughout the season.

The final conference standings reflected Marshalltown’s dominance, with a perfect 3-0 record in North Division play. Ames finished in second place with a 2-1 record, followed by Fort Dodge at 1-2 and Mason City at 0-3. Marshalltown’s undefeated conference record is a testament to their skill and determination on the court.
