Gatelein Selected for Preseason All-Patriot League Team

Julia Gatelein, a standout midfielder for the Lehigh field hockey team, has once again been recognized for her exceptional talent and skill. The fifth-year player has been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team, marking her second consecutive preseason all-league honor. This recognition comes on the heels of a successful 2023 season where Gatelein earned All-Patriot League first team honors, as well as being selected to the NFHCA Mideast Region second team and the NFHCA Division I Senior Team.

Throughout her career at Lehigh, Gatelein has consistently demonstrated her prowess on the field. Last season, she recorded four goals and a team-leading seven assists, including a crucial game-winning goal in overtime against Rider. Her contributions were instrumental in key victories over Colgate and Ball State. With a total of 10 goals and 15 assists in 60 games played, Gatelein has proven to be a valuable asset to the Mountain Hawks.

Despite Gatelein’s individual success, Lehigh was picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League preseason poll. The team will be looking to exceed expectations and make a strong showing in the upcoming season, which kicks off on August 31 against Monmouth. With Gatelein leading the way, the Mountain Hawks will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the competitive Patriot League field hockey landscape.

The Patriot League field hockey preseason poll also unveiled major awards and the Preseason All-Patriot League team. Lineke Spaans from Lafayette was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Kira Leclercq from Bucknell earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Bryn Underwood from American was recognized as Goalkeeper of the Year. The Preseason All-Patriot League team features standout players from various schools, including Gatelein representing Lehigh as a fifth-year midfielder.

As Gatelein prepares for her final season with the Mountain Hawks, she will undoubtedly be looking to build upon her past successes and leave a lasting impact on the program. Her leadership, skill, and determination make her a formidable presence on the field, and her teammates will no doubt look to her for guidance and inspiration throughout the season.
