At Key West High School, head coach Josh Bassett is entering his fourth year leading the team. With a mix of new and experienced players, Bassett is excited about the potential of this year’s team. The boys‘ team boasts a lot of experience, with players like Andrew Bassett and Peyton Zubieta leading the way. On the girls‘ side, Claudia Steling and Althea Olsen bring three years of varsity experience, setting a strong foundation for the team. Seniors Leo Mendez and Mason Thornton provide strong leadership for the Golfin‘ Dolphins, with junior Justice Lee bringing her athleticism and positive attitude to the team. Coral Shores High School is gearing up for a competitive season with a strong core of senior players. Head coach Danielle Thomas praises the leadership and sportsmanship of seniors like Preston Carroll and Gabby Thomas, who have been instrumental in guiding the team both on and off the course. Thomas looks to reduce the team’s stroke count by adding more practice rounds to the schedule, with a focus on improving performance leading up to districts.

In addition to the established high school teams, a new group of athletes from Basilica School is looking to join the varsity ranks. While their roster is still in development, the Mariners are eager to practice and compete alongside their peers from other schools in the Keys. As they work to build their varsity programs, the Mariners are excited to be a part of the vibrant high school golf community in Monroe County.

Overall, high school golf in the Florida Keys is about more than just competition; it’s about building friendships, honing skills, and fostering a love for the game.
