Greg Rahn Appointed Assistant Coach for Women’s Basketball Team

The University of San Francisco women’s basketball program has made an exciting addition to their coaching staff with the hiring of Greg Rahn as an assistant coach. Head Coach Molly Goodenbour expressed her confidence in Rahn’s abilities, citing his experience and success at previous coaching positions as key factors in his selection for the role.

Rahn brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to the Hilltop, having most recently served as the associate head coach at Dominican for the past three seasons. During his time at Dominican, Rahn played a pivotal role in guiding the Penguins to three consecutive winning seasons, including one 20-win season and three straight PacWest Championship appearances. His coaching expertise was instrumental in helping the team achieve its first-ever national ranking in program history during the 2023-24 season.

In the 2023-24 season, Dominican recorded a remarkable 20-10 record, marking the most wins in a single season since 2018-19. The team’s strong performance earned them a national ranking and a spot in the PacWest Tournament semifinals for the second consecutive year. Rahn’s coaching acumen and dedication to player development were evident in the team’s success on the court.

Prior to his tenure at Dominican, Rahn served as the head men’s basketball coach at Pacific Union from 2014-21. During his time with the Pioneers, Rahn made significant strides in improving the program’s performance, leading the team to a historic conference championship and a berth in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Rahn has also made a mark in the professional basketball realm as the coach of the Bay Area Phoenix, a women’s team competing in the Women’s Premier Basketball Association (WPBA). Rahn’s leadership has propelled the team to back-to-back playoff appearances and a semifinal appearance, showcasing his ability to excel at the professional level as well.

Rahn’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Cal State Fullerton and a master’s in sports administration from Arkansas State. His combination of academic knowledge and practical coaching experience has equipped him with the skills necessary to make a significant impact on the San Francisco women’s basketball program.
