In a thrilling field hockey matchup on Saturday, Hazleton Area pulled out a 3-2 victory over Stroudsburg with two late third-quarter goals. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination on the field.

The turning point of the game came in the final minutes of the third quarter when Abigail Smithnosky scored a crucial goal to tie the game at 2. Just seconds later, Bella Boyle capitalized on the momentum, scoring her second goal of the day with only six seconds left in the quarter to put Hazleton Area ahead.

Boyle’s performance was outstanding, showcasing her scoring prowess and ability to come through in clutch moments. Gabby Bredbenner also played a key role for the Cougars, contributing two assists to help secure the victory.

On the other side, Stroudsburg put up a strong fight, with Cailin Mignosi and Ally Kosma scoring for their team. Despite their efforts, Hazleton Area’s late surge proved to be the difference-maker in the game.

In girls‘ soccer action, Wyoming Area shut out Honesdale with a 5-0 victory. Adie Kostik and Ava Musinski led the way for the Warriors, each scoring twice in the game. Kostik also provided two assists, while Ella Shepulski added the final goal to secure the win. Honesdale’s goalkeeper Rachele Chee put up a strong performance, making 20 saves to keep her team in the game.

Valley View edged out Wyoming Valley West in a close 3-2 match, with Abby Singer and Lola Wojciechowski scoring for the Spartans. However, Callie Gillen’s two goals, including the game-winner, propelled the Cougars to victory in a hard-fought battle.

In boys‘ soccer, Tunkhannock secured a 3-0 win over Mid Valley, with Caden Newswanger scoring twice, including a penalty kick. Newswanger also assisted on Ryan Negvesky’s goal, while goalkeeper Elijah Faux made 12 saves to preserve the shutout.
