Introducing the Fresh Faces of Women’s Volleyball 2024

UC San Diego women’s volleyball team is gearing up for the 2024 season with the addition of 10 new players to their roster. Among these newcomers are three transfers and seven first-year scholar-athletes who are set to bring fresh talent and energy to the team. Let’s take a closer look at these new additions and what they bring to the Tritons.

First-year scholar-athletes Lucia Barroso, Paulina Baillie, Katelyn Hernandez, Audrey Hollis, Madison Johnson, Molly McCluskey, and Valentina Meirelles are joining the UC San Diego team. Each of these players brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the court, adding depth and versatility to the roster.

In addition to the first-year scholar-athletes, the Tritons are also welcoming three transfers to the team. Sinead Beaupain, Kylie Pries, and Kailee Wakatake bring with them experience from UC Santa Cruz, University of San Diego, and Taft College, respectively. Their previous collegiate experience will undoubtedly be an asset to the team as they transition to playing for UC San Diego.

The newcomers will be joining a talented group of returning players, including standout senior outside hitter Ava McInnes. McInnes, who earned All-Big West First Team honors last season, will be a key player for the Tritons in the upcoming season. Additionally, players like Emily McDaniel, Jasmine Saran, and Lauren Brooker, who were all recognized with All-Big West honors in 2023, will provide leadership and experience on the court.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Melanie Greene, the UC San Diego women’s volleyball team is poised for success in the upcoming season. With a mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, the team is looking to build on their 17-13 overall record from last season and make a strong push in conference play.

The Tritons finished fifth in the Big West conference last season, narrowly missing out on a spot in the inaugural Big West Championship. With the NCAA’s four-year reclassification period now complete, UC San Diego’s programs are eligible for both Big West and NCAA postseason competition in the upcoming season, adding an extra layer of excitement and motivation for the team.

As the Tritons prepare for the 2024 season, fans can look forward to an exciting blend of talent, experience, and potential on the court. With a mix of new faces and familiar ones, the UC San Diego women’s volleyball team is ready to make their mark in the Big West conference and beyond. Stay tuned for what promises to be an action-packed and thrilling season for the Tritons.
