Lady Scots Tennis and Volleyball Teams Secure Victories

In a remarkable turn of events, the Scotland women’s tennis team kicked off their 2024 season with a bang, securing two impressive victories over SAC rival Hoke County. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the program, as it is their first win since October 4, 2022. The team’s success can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of their coach, Charles Smith, who stepped up to lead the team despite having little experience in coaching tennis.

The Scots‘ stellar performance on the court was highlighted by their dominant display in both singles and doubles matchups. Freshman Kaleigh Leviner made a memorable varsity debut, clinching two singles victories over Hoke County’s Addison Price with a combined score of 16-7. Leviner also teamed up with junior Shay Ward to secure a doubles win, further solidifying their team’s success. Ward, too, had an exceptional day, triumphing over her opponent Razia Corbero in both singles matchups and contributing to the doubles victory with Leviner.

Senior Maleah Locklear, Rhea Truesdell, and Marissa Smith also delivered standout performances, each securing victories in their respective singles matches. The Scots displayed their prowess in doubles play as well, with Locklear/Lilly Rankin, Truesdell/Smith, and Ward/Leviner all emerging victorious in their matchups.

Looking ahead, the Scotland women’s tennis team is set to continue their conference action with a challenging matchup against Union Pines next Tuesday, followed by a nonconference game against Whiteville on Thursday. With their strong start to the season, the Scots are poised to build on their success and make a statement in the upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, the Scotland volleyball team continued their winning streak with a commanding sweep of the South View Tigers. This victory marks their fourth consecutive win of the season, with the team yet to drop a single set. Senior Addison Johnson led the charge with an impressive performance, recording 21 kills, two aces, three digs, and four assists in the win.

The Scots‘ dominance on the court was evident as they secured victories in all three sets against South View, with scores of 25-9, 25-19, and 25-21. The team’s cohesive play and strong individual performances, including those of Molly Gallagher, Reagan Malpass, Ramsey Hale, Nora Teasley, and Jordyn Walker, were instrumental in securing the victory.

As the Scotland volleyball team looks ahead to a busy week of games, including matchups against Hoke County, Southern Lee, and St. Pauls, they are determined to maintain their winning momentum and continue their pursuit of excellence on the court. With their talent, teamwork, and unwavering determination, the Scots are poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming matches and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the conference.
