Lions tennis team’s deeper squad expected to compensate for key losses

The Bremen High School boys tennis team is gearing up for an exciting season filled with new challenges and opportunities. With a new lineup, a new conference, and a revamped schedule, the team is ready to showcase their skills and compete at a high level.

Head coach Kevin Hickman acknowledges the difficulty of losing key players like Max Varner and Camden Hickman, who were instrumental in the team’s success over the past four years. However, he is optimistic about the team’s depth this season, with eight returning letter winners ready to step up and make an impact. The team’s goal is to win the inaugural Indiana Northern State Conference championship and perform well in sectionals.

Despite dealing with a few injuries, the Lions have a strong group of returnees to rely on, including seniors Brock Ginter, Preston Williams, and Blake Grove, as well as juniors Max Barnes, Maddux Hickman, Corban VanVuren, and Micah Porter. Sophomore Chase Devine and newcomer Riley Tener are also expected to make significant contributions to the team. Assistant coach Heidi Hickman will provide support and guidance throughout the season.

The team’s schedule is filled with challenging matchups that will test their skills and teamwork. After scrimmaging against Goshen, the Lions will kick off their season with a match against Mishawaka, followed by home games against Warsaw and sectional favorite Fairfield. Other highlights include matches against sectional foe NorthWood and Plymouth, as well as a home game against new conference opponent Tippecanoe Valley. The team will also participate in the West Noble Invitational and host their own tournament.

One of the most anticipated events of the season is the INSC Tournament, where the Lions will face off against conference rivals in a competitive setting. The team is excited to host the conference tournament and showcase their talent in front of their home crowd. Additionally, the annual tournament at West Noble provides a valuable opportunity for the team to assess their progress and compete against a variety of opponents in a single day.

As the season progresses, the Bremen boys tennis team will continue to work hard, improve their skills, and strive for success in both the conference and sectional competitions. With a dedicated coaching staff, talented players, and a competitive schedule, the team is poised to make a strong showing and leave their mark on the court. Fans can look forward to an exciting season filled with thrilling matches and impressive performances from the Lions.
