Oakland Volleyball Loses Preseason Match to Bowling Green

Oakland University’s volleyball team recently wrapped up its preseason with a match against Bowling Green, where they unfortunately fell in three sets. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Grizzlies struggled to find their rhythm against a strong Falcons squad. Sophomore outside hitter Gentry Brown led Oakland with six kills, while Ainsley Guse added five. The match started off with both teams trading points, but Bowling Green quickly pulled ahead and maintained their lead throughout the first set, ultimately winning 25-16.

Moving on to the second set, Oakland put up a fight and kept the score close. A kill by Christina Bohm tied the game at 15-15, but Bowling Green managed to go on a five-point run to extend their lead. Although Oakland tried to close the gap, the Falcons ultimately took the set 25-19. The third set saw a similar back-and-forth dynamic, with Oakland initially taking the lead at 6-4. However, Bowling Green responded with a 4-0 run to pull ahead and maintained their lead until the end, winning the set 25-16 and the match.

Defensively, senior libero Emily Wichmann stood out with an impressive 20 digs, but Oakland struggled at the net against Bowling Green’s strong blocking and offensive play. Despite the loss, the Golden Grizzlies showed determination and resilience throughout the match.

Looking ahead, the volleyball team is gearing up for their official season opener against the University of Buffalo at the Buffalo Invite on Friday, August 30th. The team will be looking to bounce back from their preseason loss and start the season on a positive note. With their hard work and dedication, the Golden Grizzlies are sure to put up a strong fight in the upcoming matches.
