Osakis Girls Tennis Looks to Defend Conference Title and Compete for Section 6A Championship – Alexandria Echo Press

The Osakis girls tennis team is gearing up for the 2024 season after a successful 2023 campaign. With an 18-8 record, a second-place finish in Section 6A, and a Prairie Conference title under their belt, the Silverstreaks are looking to build on their achievements and make a strong push in the upcoming season.

Head coach Ryan Maddock is optimistic about the team’s prospects, stating, „We feel that we have the players to field a very competitive team and potentially one that can challenge for the section title.“ The returning players have shown improvement and are eager to showcase their skills on the court.

Leading the charge for Osakis is junior Leah Maddock, a three-time MSHSL Class A Individual State Tournament singles entrant who finished as the runner-up in the state tournament in 2023. With her experience and talent, Leah is expected to be a key player for the team this season. Additionally, senior Jaclyn Dietrich and juniors Bella Weisser, Ava Drevlow, Maddi Bouldin, and Faith Schmidtbauer bring valuable varsity experience to the lineup.

Coach Maddock is confident in his players‘ abilities, highlighting Leah’s skill and work ethic, as well as the potential of Bella, Ava, and Jaclyn to make significant contributions to the team. The team also welcomes back Morgan Baker, who missed the previous season due to injury, adding depth and experience to the doubles lineup.

In addition to the returning players, Osakis has a group of newcomers who are eager to make their mark on the team. With a mix of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, the Silverstreaks have a strong roster that is poised for success in the upcoming season.

The team’s schedule is packed with exciting matchups against conference rivals and tough opponents in Section 6A. With teams like New London-Spicer, Litchfield, and Minnewaska expected to be contenders for the section title, Osakis will face stiff competition as they aim to make a deep playoff run.

As the season approaches, Coach Maddock is focused on fine-tuning the team’s skills and strategies to ensure they are ready to compete at a high level. With an emphasis on movement, anticipation, serving, and service returns, the Silverstreaks are working hard to improve all aspects of their game.

Overall, the Osakis girls tennis team is poised for another successful season in 2024. With a talented roster, experienced players, and dedicated coaching staff, the Silverstreaks are ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead and make their mark in Section 6A.
