Preview of the 2024 CU Golf Season

The Clarkson University Golf team had a successful season in 2023, with three golfers averaging fewer than 77 strokes per 18 holes. This impressive performance has set the stage for the Golden Knights to carry that momentum into the 2024 season. Led by second-year head coach Tyler Cline and assistant Casey Ditzel, the team is gearing up for another exciting year on the course.

The team will kick off their season at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton, NY, with a 36-hole tournament. This familiar course will provide a great opportunity for the players to showcase their skills and start the season on a strong note.

In the previous season, five players on the team averaged lower than 80 strokes per round. Senior Andrew Palmatier was a consistent performer for Clarkson, with an average of 76.94 over 18 rounds. He is expected to be a key player in the lineup for the Golden Knights in the upcoming season. Sophomores Ryan Makowski and Eric Spoth also had impressive performances, with Spoth leading the team with an average of 76.31. Makowski showed consistency by shooting above 80 only twice in 18 rounds and carding scores of 75 or lower on eight occasions.

Senior Daniel Wilson, juniors Brant Bomberger and Aaron Walsh, and sophomore Jace Dutch also contributed to the team’s success last season. These players will be looking to build on their performances and secure their spots in the tournament lineup. With competition for spots heating up, the team is poised for a competitive and exciting season ahead.

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, several other players may also have the opportunity to showcase their skills and earn a spot in the top-five lineup. Players like Luke Weisiger, Dylan Farr, Jon Tiderencel, Luke Baringer, and newcomer Tyler Yacawych will be looking to make their mark on the team and contribute to its success.

With a strong core of returning players and new talent joining the team, the Clarkson University Golf team is ready to take on the challenges of the 2024 season. Under the guidance of Coach Cline and Coach Ditzel, the Golden Knights are determined to build on their past successes and make a mark in collegiate golf. Fans can look forward to an exciting season filled with competitive play and impressive performances from this talented group of student-athletes.
