Red White Scrimmage for Nebraska Volleyball

The highly anticipated Red White scrimmage for the Nebraska volleyball team is just around the corner, set to take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 6:00 pm (CT) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. This event serves as a prelude to the upcoming 2024 season of Husker volleyball, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.

The scrimmage will feature four sets played between two teams – Red Nebraska and White Nebraska. The lineups for each team will be determined by the coaching staff, who will mix and match players to create different combinations on the court. This close-to-match simulation allows the coaches to evaluate players in a game-like scenario, testing their skills and readiness for the season ahead.

Head Coach John Cook has expressed his confidence in the entire roster, stating that he believes every player can contribute to the team’s success. One area where we can expect to see a variety of lineups is in the middle blocker and left side hitter positions.

In the middle blocker position, three players stand out – Rebekah Allick, Andi Jackson, and Leyla Blackwell. Allick, a 6’4“ junior, has been a consistent performer for the team, earning accolades such as All-Big Ten and AVCA All-Region honors. Jackson, a 6’3“ sophomore, has shown growth and improvement, while Blackwell, a 6’4“ senior transfer from San Diego, brings experience and skill to the position.

The decision of who starts in the middle will be based on the strengths of each player and the specific matchups they will face. Allick’s blocking prowess, Jackson’s offensive abilities, and Blackwell’s all-around game will all be factors in the coaching staff’s decision-making process.

On the left side hitter position, four players are vying for two spots – Lindsay Krause, Harper Murray, Taylor Landfair, and Skylar Pierce. Each player brings a unique set of skills to the table, from Krause’s experience and leadership to Landfair’s offensive firepower.

The coaching staff will evaluate each player based on their attacking, passing, serving, blocking, and defensive abilities to determine who will earn a starting role. The decision-making process will take time, with Coach Cook predicting that it may not be settled until well into the season.

As fans eagerly await the start of the season, the Red White scrimmage offers a glimpse into the talent and potential of the Nebraska volleyball team. With a roster full of skilled and dedicated players, the Huskers are poised for another successful season on the court. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the hustle, precision, artistry, and energy that each player brings to the court. The 2024 season promises to be an exciting one for Husker volleyball fans.
