Stevens Receives Formal Recognition as Capital District Sports Woman of the Year

Field Hockey Player Amy Stevens Honored at Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala

On August 14, 2024, Russell Sage College graduate student Amy Stevens from Castle Creek, NY, was recognized as one of the three collegiate award recipients at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala. The event took place at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady, NY, celebrating the achievements of female student-athletes in the Capital District.

Stevens, who is currently pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy, made a significant impact during her debut season with the Russell Sage College Field Hockey team in 2023. Her performance was exceptional, earning her the title of the program’s first-ever All-American with second-team All-American honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

Throughout the season, Stevens set new records for the program, including 49 points and 20 goals in a single season. Her outstanding performance led to her being named the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Additionally, her averages of 3.06 points and 1.25 goals per game ranked her sixth in the country and topped the Empire 8 Conference.

One of the highlights of Stevens‘ season was setting the program’s single-game record for goals with four, showcasing her exceptional talent and skill on the field. Her contributions were instrumental in helping Russell Sage College qualify for the E8 Championship Tournament for the first time in the team’s history.

The Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala, established in 2019, aims to honor female student-athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. These athletes are recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service, highlighting their well-rounded excellence both on and off the field.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Stevens‘ dedication to her academic pursuits and community involvement played a significant role in her selection for this prestigious award.
