Table Tennis Association supports efforts to eliminate toxic fan groups

The Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) has taken a strong stance against illegal „fan circle“ activities that have been disrupting the sports sector in recent times. These fan circles, which are highly organized groups of fans dedicated to promoting and defending a celebrity or public figure, have been causing harm to athletes, coaches, and management through their toxic behaviors.

In a statement released on Saturday, the CTTA condemned the unlawful behavior that has been affecting the normal training and competition of the Chinese table tennis team. The association expressed its full support for the recent law enforcement actions aimed at combating these illegal activities that have been plaguing the sports industry.

The Ministry of Public Security recently revealed four notable cases of illegal „fan circle“ activities targeting sports figures. One of the cases involved a woman from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, who was spreading defamatory statements about Chinese table tennis athletes and coaches on social media platforms. She has been placed under criminal detention for the harmful social impact of her actions.

Another case investigated by Guangdong police involved a woman from Guangzhou who repeatedly posted insulting and defamatory comments about table tennis players on social media. She too faced criminal enforcement measures for her actions.

In a separate investigation, authorities in Shandong and Hebei provinces targeted two men for their roles in a network harassment case. One of the men authored a viral online post questioning the credibility of a Paris Olympic gold medalist, which was then widely shared, leading to public backlash. Both men received administrative penalties for their involvement in the incident.

Additionally, an 18-year-old woman from Henan Province was penalized for publicly insulting a gymnast on social media. Her actions also resulted in administrative punishment from local law enforcement.

In response to these incidents, cyber police departments have increased their efforts to monitor and address illegal activities linked to „fan circles“ in the sports domain. The CTTA reassured that the national table tennis team remains united and committed to excellence despite these challenges. The association emphasized its dedication to the healthy development of Chinese table tennis.

Overall, the CTTA’s strong condemnation of illegal „fan circle“ activities and its support for law enforcement actions demonstrate a commitment to maintaining integrity and fairness in the sports sector. By cracking down on toxic behaviors that disrupt the sports industry, authorities are working towards creating a safer and more positive environment for athletes, coaches, and fans alike.
