Transition from summer to autumn in Podgorica marked by table tennis

Last year’s winners of the table tennis event in Podgorica, Montenegro, left a mark with their impressive skills and teamwork. The event, organized by the Capital City Sports Secretariat and STK „Spin“, has become a highly anticipated sports and recreational activity in the city. With the third edition of the event set to kick off on September 14, table tennis enthusiasts are gearing up for another exciting competition.

The format of the event includes eight individual qualifying tournaments, with six for men and two for women. The tournaments will be held at four different locations in the city, each equipped with two table tennis tables. Sixteen male and female competitors will compete in each location, divided into four groups. The group phase will see participants compete against each other in a round-robin format, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals.

After the group phase, only one elimination round will be played, leading to the selection of the four best male and female competitors who will advance to the final event. The final tournament will be a team competition, with eight teams formed from the top competitors. Each team will consist of two men and two women, competing in a series of matches to determine the ultimate winners.

The prize fund for this year’s event has been increased to 2,000 euros, with rewards for the top three teams. The winning team will receive 1,000 euros, followed by 600 euros for the second-place team and 400 euros for the third-place team. This significant prize fund adds an extra layer of excitement and competitiveness to the event, motivating participants to give their best on the table.

To participate in the qualifying tournaments, individuals must be 16 years or older and not among the top 50 ranked competitors in domestic or international table tennis rankings. Registration is done via email, with participants providing their personal details and preferred location for competition. Registrations will continue until sixteen competitors have signed up for each tournament, ensuring a fair and competitive playing field for all participants.

Last year’s winners, the Ljubović team, consisting of Dado Haverić, David Milić, Marko Davidović, and Anđela Rakonjac, showcased exceptional skills and teamwork to claim victory. The previous edition was won by the Morača team, highlighting the diverse talent and competitive spirit present in the table tennis community in Podgorica.

With tournament locations spread across the city, from Njegošev park to Pobrežje, participants and spectators alike can enjoy the thrill of table tennis in various neighborhoods. The final tournament on October 5 at „Bemax Park“ in Tološka Forest promises to be a grand finale, bringing together the top teams for an exciting showdown.

As the city gears up for another thrilling edition of the table tennis event, players and fans can look forward to intense matches, displays of skill and sportsmanship, and the crowning of new champions. The event not only promotes physical activity and healthy competition but also fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. With the support of the Capital City Sports Secretariat and STK „Spin“, table tennis continues to thrive in Podgorica, offering a platform for players to showcase their talent and passion for the sport.
