Volleyball Kicks Off 2024 Season in North Carolina

As the 2024 volleyball season kicks off, Missouri State is gearing up for an exciting opening weekend at the Spartan Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Bears will face off against South Carolina Upstate, UNC Greensboro, and Robert Morris in what promises to be a thrilling start to the campaign.

Under the guidance of head coach Steven McRoberts, Missouri State has a solid track record in season openers, boasting a 32-20 all-time record and a 3-1 record under McRoberts‘ leadership. The Bears will look to continue their winning ways as they take on these challenging opponents.

One of the key storylines for Missouri State this season is the presence of five seniors on the roster, including Maddy Bushnell, Kate Owen, and Morgan Sprague. These fourth-year players have already made their mark on the program, with impressive individual achievements that have contributed to the team’s success.

Bushnell, in particular, has set records for the Bears, including a freshman record for hitting percentage in 2021. Owen has also left her mark on the program, ranking 24th in career digs at Missouri State. Sprague, meanwhile, is poised to surpass 3,000 career assists, solidifying her place in the school’s history books.

In addition to the seasoned veterans on the team, Missouri State has welcomed 11 new faces to the roster this season, including eight freshmen and three transfers. These new additions bring fresh talent and energy to the squad, adding depth and versatility to the lineup.

On the court, Missouri State has been a force to be reckoned with in recent seasons, ranking in the top 32 nationally in total digs and boasting impressive ace averages. Under Coach McRoberts‘ guidance, the Bears have consistently excelled in these areas, showcasing their defensive prowess and serving skills.

This season also marks Missouri State’s final campaign in the Missouri Valley Conference, as the team is set to make the move to Conference USA in 2025. The Bears have a long history in the MVC, dating back to 1992, and will look to make a lasting impression in their final season in the conference.

With Coach McRoberts at the helm, Missouri State is poised for another successful season on the volleyball court. As the Bears embark on their journey in 2024, fans can expect to see a competitive and determined team that is ready to take on any challenge that comes their way.
